Roll up, roll up for the ISAN Spring General Meeting & EGM 2015 on Tuesday 17 February in the lavish splendour of the Winter Gardens, home of the biggest theatre and opera spaces in the UK. While you’re there, sample the delights of Blackpool, a seaside resort packed with charm and glamour, and host of Showzam! annual festival of circus and outdoor arts.

Join us for a show stopping, whip cracking, spectacular smorgasbord of delights at our not-to-be-missed Making It Happen panel presentations and open floor discussion space to explore the theme:

Outdoor Arts reaches the People and Places where other art platforms have rarely gone before.   

Presentations will explore the latest developments in outdoor arts including interesting approaches to making work, new opportunities and how to tap into them:

  • Alison Clark-Jenkins, Director of Combined Arts and North, will discuss current and future funding opportunities through ACE.
  • Creative People and Places, ACE funded initiative in Blackpool – Julia Turpin, Executive Director and Michael Trainor, Artistic Director of Left Coast, Blackpool will explore:
    • the value of Outdoor Arts in areas of low engagement
    • Public / Private partnerships and funding through Creative People & Places (ACE)
    • Artistic Programming and Audience Development
  • Without Walls Associate Touring Network–managed by Xtrax, Maggie Clarke, Director, and Anais Biaux, Project Manager, will present: Key findings from the first two years of the project programme involving partners: Fuse Festival, Medway, Bradford Festival, Left Coast, Blackpool, Appetite, Stoke on Trent, Summer in Southside, Birmingham Hippodrome, Freedom Festival, Hull, Out There Festival, Great Yarmouth, Derby Feste and SO Festival, Skegness
  • Case Study: Walk the Plank– Co-Founder and Producer, Liz Pugh, will reflect on the importance of developing an international perspective, drawing on her own experience working with the British Council overseas, and Walk the Plank’s experience of creating work in Scandinavia, South East Asia, Canada, Wales and Northern Ireland.

In addition, learn the latest on ISAN current and future planning for 2015. Plus there will be plenty of opportunities throughout the day to network with colleagues in the sector and beyond.

This event is FREE to ISAN members.  We welcome anyone interested in outdoor arts. Non-members are required to pay a day rate of £20 (+VAT) (includes tea, coffee & buffet lunch).

Following our Spring General Meeting / EGM: ISAN meeting attendees will re-convene informally for Showzam! headline act Circolumbia, a paid for event, but offered at a discounted rate for ISAN members only, followed by a free Golden Section artist talk with Joe Mackintosh, Chief Executive of Sea Change Arts (more details below).

Anyone travelling from outside the North West region is strongly advised to arrive the day before. Blackpool Tower Circus (5mins walk from Winter Gardens)

High energy Columbian circus company Circolumbia are set to bring their unique style all the way from South America to Blackpool Tower Circus for Showzam! 2015. The company bring a highly skilled and powerful performers with an impressive skillset and fearless grit to perform terrifying stunts live on stage. This is a brand new work and Left Coast, Visit Blackpool and SeaChange are thrilled to be bringing it to Blackpool ahead of its official premier at the Roundhouse in London.
